Lesson 3 - Livability Survey & Results
Content Objective: Students will be able to create a survey using Microsoft Excel or Google Docs Presentations. Students will organize results and create graphs to represent the data recovered.
NETS: 1b,d; 2a,b; 3d; 4c; 6a,b,c
Motivational Activity: Students will view the Wikipedia site discussing the United States' and world's most livable cities. Students will then look at our classroom atlases to see if these cities have much in common geographically.
Informational Activity: Before creating the survey, collecting data, and analyzing results, 7th grade students will need to get some exposure to graph and chart making functions of Excel. The following videos should be helpful.

Application Activity: In this activity, you are going to work as a social scientist. The question we want to answer once we're done with this activity is "Do geographic issues factor into someone's choice about where they would like to live?" You and your group will design questions for our survey, give the survey to adult friends and family, and then analyze and present your research findings. The following documents will guide you through the survey creation and data collection process.
